If there is one thing you always need to have in your pantry – it’s white vinegar. For years, white vinegar has been used for things other than just cooking. It’s a household essential. Here are 15 reasons to stock up on white vinegar the next time it goes on sale.
- Restore used paint brushes: Soak used paint brushes in a pot of vinegar for an hour or two. After they’ve had time to soak, turn the stove on and let the vinegar come to a boil. Drain and rinse them right off.
- Kill weeds: Drench the roots of the weeds in as much vinegar as you can.
- Repair scratched DVDS: Have some old CD’s or DVD’s laying around that you would love to listen to or watch but they skip? Wipe some vinegar on the scratches. Make sure disk is dry before inserting it.
- Clean fruits & Veggies: White vinegar will remove more pesticides than store bought fruit & vegetable wash.
- Help loosen a screw: Got a stuck screw? Use some white vinegar to loosen up any rust that may be holding it in place.
- Bath time: I personally love this one, I do this all the time. I would see the advice of your doctor/Gynecologist before using white vinegar in the bath because vinegar will change the PH of your body. But, it’s a good routine for someone who often gets bacteria or urinary tract infections. Not only does it help with BV & UTI but it will soften cracked dry feet. So, you’re really killing two birds with one stone.
- Clean the coffee pot: Can’t seem to get the coffee stain out of your coffee maker? Let some vinegar soak in it overnight. It’ll wipe right off.
- Unclog the drain: By using one cup of baking soda mixed with one cup of white vinegar, you’ve just created your own drain cleaner! Pour it down the drain, let it sit in there four about fifteen minutes, and then pour a pot of boiling water down it. Genius.
- Wilting flowers: Mix two tablespoons of vinegar and one teaspoon of sugar in a quart of water. Pour the mixture into your vase of slowly dying flowers and soon they will start to perk back up!
- Steam clean the microwave: Create a solution mix of ¼ cup vinegar and 1 cup water. Place in microwave on the highest setting for five minutes. When it cools down enough for you to touch grab a sponge dip it in the mixture and easily wipe your microwave clean.
- Frost Free: I love winter, but I hate when my windows are frosted. Especially the windshield and the passenger side. My friend taught me how to make a solution that may last a couple weeks. Mix 2 cups of vinegar along with 1 cup of water in a spray bottle, and spray it on your windows before a storm. This isn’t a magic solution that is going to keep snow off your car during a snow storm. On the contrary, it will keep the frost off from the light snow days.
- Keep away annoying critters: Take some rags and soak them overnight in a bowl of white vinegar. By placing the rags on stakes around your gardens and flower beds, you’ll keep out unwanted guest such as – cats, raccoons, & Deer. Animals like these hate the scent from the vinegar, even after it dries. You’ll want to re-soak the rags every 7-9 days.
- Rust removal: Clean your old rusty tools by soaking them in vinegar for several days.
- Kill the smoke smell: Wiping down walls, ceilings, & counters can help get rid of that old cigarette smell.
- Remove wallpaper: Have some old wallpaper you’re dying to get off the wall but it’s being stubborn? In a spray bottle mix equal parts of vinegar and warm water. Spray on the wallpaper you wish to remove, making sure you saturate it. Take the wallpaper scraper you just tried to use a million times before and watch it come off!
